A regular dive buddy suffered greatly in one of his suits and I'm sure he wasted more energy in the nearly 10 minutes it took to put on the suit than during the dive. Between the heat that he spent putting it on, that the suit was a little small, that each year that passes we get wider and how inflexible the suit itself was, the poor man spent real martyrdom every time we went diving.
With the passage of time and travel I have seen that in all diving cruises there is at least one that has the same problems. I always find someone who wears a great wetsuit under water but on the surface is a real hell. We have compiled some of the tricks that we have been seeing and that we are sure will help you put on the wetsuit more easily on your next dive, spending less energy and time when putting on the suit.
To carry out this trick you will need a volunteer. Ask your partner to take air and blow through the sleeve of the suit when you are putting it on, by the wrist more specifically, to create an air gap between your skin and the wetsuit, entering more easily. Yes, you can do it yourself, but it will be easier with help.
Use a bag
This is the trick that I have seen most often used to avoid problems when putting on the suit. Put a bag on your feet or hands before putting on the suit and you will see that it slides like silk afterwards.
Very important: always keep the bag after using it, if you leave it on the deck of the boat it is very possible that it will end up in the water.
Turn it around
Another trick that works great is to completely flip the suit inside out. Then run your foot through the flipped suit and roll it around your leg. Repeat the mechanism with the other leg, the torso and finally the arms. Fast and easy.
Use a water-based lubricant
Water-based lubricants can also help your suit fit more easily. Spreading a small amount of lubricant on your wrists and ankles before putting on your suit will cause it to slide while you put it on, especially around the tightest parts. Be careful not to use oil-based lubricants, they damage the wetsuits.
